Advocacy Support to – Emerging Young Afghan Women Leaders:

WPP with the support of Women Mediators Across the Commonwealth and LSE/WPS centre have training sessions for “Emerging Young Afghan women leaders” in July 2022. These sessions were led by Indira Kartallozi and Rina Fetahaj to support the group to develop deeper self-confidence and leadership skills.

Advocacy Support to – Afghan Women Leaders:

In partnership with the Women Mediators across the Commonwealth network, WPP is working on providing technical advocacy support to Afghan women leaders in the UK, Europe and US. Our founding director is also part of the international advocacy on Afghanistan and represents the organisation.

High-level Roundtable:

WPP organised a high-level round table for Afghan women leaders with members of the Syrian Advisory Board members with the help of UNWomen. An exchange of experiences took place and was an opportunity to engage women from across conflict contexts in times of crisis for learning and advice. We aim to organise an in-person event for the same group of women for a more in- depth conversations.

Diaspora Skills Mapping and Development:

Socio-economic integration of the recently displaced and evacuated Afghans WPP intends to conduct a survey among the newly formed Afghan Diaspora community in order to determine the skills and abilities available to Afghan women and men. This will be the first step towards the new diaspora group’s reintegration into the UK.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, over the past two years our work in with women in diaspora in general has slowed down, and we could not organize WPP’s annual convention/events as we did in previous years. These conventions and events brought together a range of women representing the diaspora from various countries to share experiences and do peer learning on topics related to advocacy, peacebuilding and policy engagements. We aim to revive those valuable opportunities for women, including young women.

There is an increased desire within WPP members and its network to register the organization as a charity in order to formalize relationships with partners and to be able to apply for funding in order to achieve the above. We are currently restructuring and have invited our trustees to engage and reiterate their commitments. We have identified additional trustees who will be introduced very soon, and new members who are keen to support our cause.

At the same time, discussions are ongoing with an international research hub that WPP is partnering with at the LSE WPS centre to explore the opportunity to host WPP and provide administrative support to the organization, enabling WPP to apply for funding.

Building inclusive and peaceful societies through access to equal opportunities.
