About Us

Women for Peace and Participation (WPP) promotes the social and political inclusion of women and youth in peace-building and state-building processes at the grassroots, national and global levels and works with women and youth on agency building for peacebuilding, conflict resolution, economic development and networking. WPP has a strong base in the southern and western regions, including Kabul, Kandahar, and Helmand. Their approach is action research, engaging a wide network of women partners to advance women’s rights, peace and security in these communities.
Previously, WPP coordinated efforts and work with the Provincial Peace Councils in Afghanistan to raise their awareness of regional policies and utilize their capacity to promote the inclusion of women and youth in the peace process. WPP have also provided training and education for individuals and civil society organizations in effective outreach in communities, on sustainable peacebuilding and peaceful coexistence, informal education, including policy level consultation and transfer of knowledge, and on social, political and justice issues. In the current context, WPP continue to support women and young people to access safety, livelihood opportunities and through these enhance safety for women and engagement them in local level conflict resolution and mediation, and to network with others in the country, the region and internationally by building sustainable networks. WPP continues to facilitate conversations on rights, peace and security, integrated with humanitarian and livelihoods initiatives as an entry point.
WPP also provides platforms for women mediators and peacebuilders in the diaspora and exile enhancing opportunities for policy engagement and advocacy, to ensure the inclusion of women community leaders on the move – while connecting the local to the global, as well as creating global solidarity among peacebuilders.
Our mission
Women for Peace and Participation’s goal is to promote social inclusion and provide an opportunity for excluded groups of women and youth to shape the future of their country through participation in conflict resolution and peace and mediation processes, formal and informal.
WPP aims to work with marginalized individuals in conflict-tattered regions and provide platforms for inclusion to women, in peace and security issues, by:
- Support and empower them with essential skills to participate in peace building and mediation efforts.
- Empower and develop women and young people as leaders and mediators.
- Facilitate conflict resolution at community level to enhance protection for women and girls.
- Enhance opportunities for the inclusion and influence of women and young people in decision-making processes at the local, national and regional levels, through economic empowerment and leadership development.
- Develop and facilitate networks and networking among women, including young women.

WPP’s UK objectives:
- Empower women and youth by building their capacities and skill-sets to engage in peacebuilding processes and enhancing resilience.
- Addressing trauma through one to one and collective support sessions.
- Develop the leadership skills of the next generation of young women/men and youth.
- Professional/jobs opportunities support newly arrived refugees to find work, as well as educational opportunities, support newly arrived refugees in getting into education.
- Provision of safe space/platform for discussions and networking and convening platforms for engagement in activities that enhance opportunities for the inclusion of women including young women in decision-making processes around WPS.
- To develop partnerships with individuals, communities and organisations working in development, peacebuilding and state-building – all aimed at creating a shared consensus on the policies needed to bring effective political, economic and social change in war-torn societies.
